– LISTENING DEEPLY: VOICING CHARACTER- ANNA ZUBRZYCKI: MASTER CLASS 01-05 AUGUST 2016 A master classes in Vocal techniques by Anna Zubrzycki, held in Wroclaw, Poland. This intensive five day workshop will help performers to delve deeply into the emotional and imaginative source of their singing and speaking voices, too often neglected in performance training. By exploring our voices as individuals as well as merging them with others we embody them in the landscape of our imagination and emotions. Song is a key which opens up the internal world of character, metaphors and our relationship to the ensemble. The performer becomes a musical instrument within the symphony which is the performance.  This workshop will give participants a chance to experience this through the unique approach which Anna has created over her 30 years as a teacher and performer. It is a holistic approach to voice which coordinates it with movement, rhythm and the imaginative impulse of the individual within the context of ensemble work. Song, text and voice phenomena can be used to find new sources of creativity, as they awaken the sense of internal and external rhythm, spatial awareness and focus. The workshop is aimed at mature performers and students of theatre studies . The creative material of the workshop will be Euripides ‘Medea’ Participants are invited to choose a monologue from the play in their own language, as well as a dialogue as the basis for their personal work during the week. Additionally each participant should bring a song which has a strong internal resonance for them and  comes from a traditional culture of their choice. WHEN: Master...

Acting and Vocal Techniques

Anna’s performer training is rooted in the Co-ordination Technique: a holistic approach to integrating song, text, body and imagination, developed by her with other members of Song of The Goat Theatre, and also draws upon her MSc research into the role that Mindfulness plays in modern performer training. Anna was Course Leader for the duration of the MA Acting at Song of the Goat Theatre.

Anna’s workshops nurture the artistic skills of participants, including; sensitive ‘listening’; working with the imaginative and expressive instincts of the body; embodying presence, confidence and readiness; finding internal connection and authentic relationships with other performers; singing, harmony and tuning; seeking integration of creative impulses, movement, song, text.

Anna is currently completing an MSc in Mindfulness at Aberdeen University and is researching ways to deepen her distinct ‘coordination technique’ for actor training.

voices foundation

The ‘Voices’ foundation has been created in order to give a platform for artistic and educational projects by and for women. Through supporting initiatives in the Wroclaw area and facilitating international exchange and cooperation ‘Voices’ can give women artists the chance to experience their own strengths both locally as well as within the broader international community. Providing the opportunity to experience cultural and social diversity through festivals, conferences and educational projects the ‘Voices’ foundation aims to engender tolerance and and inspire women to create their own networks of support in order to be able to further help women in difficult and challenging circumstances.

Mindfulness is an innate capacity of the mind to be aware of the present moment in a non-judgmental way. It can be developed through systematic training and promotes a way of being that helps us to take better care of ourselves and others, and to lead healthier lives. It enables us to access inner resources for coping effectively with stress, difficulty and illness.
Anna is currently completing her MSc in Mindfulness at Aberdeen University, and is researching the ways in which Mindfulness practice can build strong and authentic onstage presence for performers through heightening self- awareness, allowing them to connect to their rich inner imaginative and emotional world and use this connection to inform their vocal expression. She is a tutor of the Mindfulness Association and is coordinating the work of the Association in Poland, offering training in Mindfulness for people from all walks of life.
